MCDONALD SCHOOL OF IRISH DANCE

The McDonald School of Irish Dance was established in 2001, under the direction of Champion Dancer Amy Markwardt, T.C.R.G. With Irish lineage on her maternal side of the family, Amy's love for the art of Irish Step dancing started at the age of 8, as a student with the Butler Academy in Syracuse, New York. Her passion for Irish Dance is now passed on to students of all ages, at 4 locations throughout Central New York.

The school's mission is to provide students with a fun, healthy environment to develop their talent, and for some, their Irish culture.

All dancers are given the opportunity to perform at community events as well as to compete in local and regional feisanna and national and world competitions as they qualify. With relatively small classes, we strive to provide each student with individual attention to their dancing skills. Proper form and technique, flexibility, stamina, and stage presence are the main focus. Students are also encouraged to acquire life lessons such as dedication, team work and a positive attitude.

The sport of Irish Dance offers a great outlet for building motor skills such as balance, physical fitness, and coordination. With the most up-to-date material provided to our dancers through intensive classes and workshops, each dancer is given the opportunity to thrive in all aspects of their Irish dancing career.

Whatever your child’s dancing goals may be, we work to achieve their potential in learning while most importantly, making their entire experience with Irish Dance a wonderful, memorable one.

Over the years, McDonald School of Irish Dance students have performed to the delight of audiences at numerous Irish Festivals, Parades, Gala Dinners, Weddings, and events throughout the community. Our dancers have performed with the famous Trinity Irish Dance Company, and for the local TV program, "Bridge Street". Our Championship dancers have placed successfully while traveling in recent years to Canada, Chicago, NYC, Orlando, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and more... for Regional, National, and World Championship competitions. Each year our dancers entertain family and friends at a spring showcase, proudly displaying their wide range of ages and talent.

An annual Feis is also hosted by our school, here in Central New York.
